Recommendations this month
So with the 2nd wave of covid possibly halting the normal/ natural life cycle of us humans as we know, and this hovering speculation of another dreaded lockdown in the country, it's hard to be cheerful amid these dark prospects. I myself am fortunate enough to be occupied with my preparations but many of my friends may not. So for them and anyone in these categories there are certain recommendations (precisely 3) that they could follow to make this boring period a little less grim.
1. Five Feet Apart
Normally I watch a movie, enjoy it, take something out of it (that's rare) and then forget it. That's the SOPs of watching movies right? But with FFA I lost my cycles to the extent that now this movie has a very deep infiltration in my overalls. It may be partly because I have a very close association with someone with similar (similar in nature not perhaps in degree) life-threatening disease and partly maybe because of the perfection with which will and stella have acted in this.
I would say you gotta take my words for this when I am telling you it's a must-watch not because of the perfect depictions but because of its very very strong reminder or a nudge for humanism in a sense that you feel to question your behavior with the loved once. In an era where the whims are such that you are either with me or against me and everything is defined in some sorts of brackets and contours, this movie tries to explore the new dimensions of human love and this attempt must be celebrated.
2. किस्सा किस्सा लखनऊवा
I need to say it as a disclaimer that I am an unapologetic admirer of all the works of Himanshu Vajpayee be it his kissagoi his oratory skills or now the writing skills. Having said that I regret that despite being my long stay in Lucknow during my university years I didn't get a chance to get my copy autographed by him. (i will someday, however).
Coming onto the book this is one of the most cutely curated collections of small anecdotes of lakhnavi tahjeebs . Imagine the amount of time and hard work which must have been invested to research these anecdotes or the qissas as Himanshu puts it. Himanshu has perfectly assimilated these anecdotes in 70+ qissas and that too in just 180 odd pages. For those who tend not to read a book because of this perpetual fear of not being able to finish it, Himanshu is your tool to smash your preconceived fears.
3. A Message To Garcia
This probably is by far the most extensively read essay on motivation you can find on the internet(the fact that it is the most-read essay worldwide is quoted from an interview of an Indian army veteran ). I was fortunate enough to buy the argument and subsequently downloaded this pdf file. If i were to tell you the essence of the essay in a nutshell without leaking most of it it will be like a story of a soldier who is ordered by his superior officer amid the USA- Spain war to deliver a letter to a person name Garcia whose whereabouts and other details are unknown and he is probably somewhere past the hostile territory. To put things in perspective let me mind you that it's 1899 so no modern tools as GPS etc were discovered yet.
The details of order by superior and its follow up by the solider is for you to find and read. It's a 2-page pdf and 5 min read but this may encourage you in more ways than you can imagine.
These are the recommendation for this month hopefully these recommendations will follow the incoming months as well. Till then stay safe.
